John, Sales Team Leader

Hi my name is John and I am the Sales Team Leader in the Liverpool Edge Lane store and I have worked here for almost two years. I first started working for Maplin on a part-time basis whilst I was at college studying for a National Diploma in Sports Development and Fitness. I chose this course because I was involved in a lot of different sports, mainly football and judo and I wanted to become a teacher.

When I started in Maplin I knew very little about electronics so I was really nervous but the team was very supportive even when we were really busy they would still try to help me. As time passed my knowledge grew and I was the master on the tills so I became more relaxed in my role and I even enjoyed coming to work. Toward the end of my time at college I was offered a full time position in the store and by then I had the retail bug and really liked interacting with the customers so I jumped at the chance.

Shortly after starting as a Full Time Sales Advisor a Sales Team Leader position become vacant so I applied for the job and two weeks later I was promoted into the role. It was the new manager who persuaded me to go for the job and just like the rest of the team Jon has been really supportive whilst I was trying to settle into my new role. Three month later I am applying for the Assistant Manager's job.

All my time at Maplin has been enjoyable and I can only hope I have a long and successful career with Maplin moving onward and upward on the way. In all my time here I have never been unhappy coming to work mostly because the majority of the people I have worked with have been fantastic. Even people who have left the store and moved on have still kept in touch. The people I work with aren't just colleagues, they are also my friends and that is why it is enjoyable about coming to work. When I started I only knew one person but everyone is very welcoming. Maplin has a lot to offer and is getting bigger and better every year.
