The business has recently made a significant investment in a purpose-built, state-of-the-art
200,000 square feet premises in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, due for completion in
spring 2008.
At the heart of Maplin is our Head Office team who support our
multi-channel sales approach through the support functions: from Finance to HR,
Marketing to the Internet, IT to Merchandising, Customer Service to the Buying teams.
What makes us different is the informality; open plan offices and a flat management
structure are a strong part of our culture and ethos.

expansion programme, it changes so rapidly: so let's say over 140 stores... for
now, but with a plan to grow by 20 stores each year, the chances are you will soon
have a Maplin Store open near you, if you haven't already!
As with any successful business, the secret ingredient is not really a secret: it's
our people.
Our stores are where the Maplin story really comes alive: our store
staff have the knowledge, enthusiasm and expertise to provide solutions to customer
queries covering over 15,000 products; ranging from selecting the correct battery
to constructing a satellite system - with over 11 million customer transactions
a year, that's a lot of questions.

We have recently started an exciting re-branding programme of our store network,
further improving our store environment for customers and staff alike: feedback
so far has been extremely positive. Every new store launch reaches new customers
who wonder how they managed without a Maplin store in their town.

established operations as far afield as Taiwan, China and Hong Kong, sourcing products
to serve over 140 stores.

Who are we?
Maplin is more than just a retailer, we are “the electronics
specialist” - but what does that mean? Good question.
From batteries to Bluetooth, SCART leads to sat nav; tools to TVs, cameras to capacitors,
we have over 15,000 products - from the everyday essential to the most specialist
electronic components. Maplin will have what you need in electronics.
Many retailers concentrate on the products; we also concentrate on the service.
As well as straightforward, expert advice, customers can also discover electronics
for themselves: from in-depth help guides to hints and tips as to what to buy: everything
we produce is geared towards making electronics easy to understand, use, enjoy and
also to make life easier!

Training is at the heart of everything we do, from vocational qualifications to
on-the-job skills such as sales and customer service. Ultimately, if you improve
your skill base, then so do we.

What matters to Maplin
Charity can begin at work - and we believe that a successful organisation should
invest in their local community. It is clear that every little bit of help, be that
time or money, can make the world of difference to a charitable organisation.
Maplin supports two specific charities: Our national charity is
MacMillan Cancer Support, whilst at Head Office we also support local fundraising
for the Barnsley Hospice.
From zip-wires to raffles, coffee mornings to auctions, we not only try to raise
money but also do our bit to keep these two worthwhile and important charities in
the public eye.
We have a very transparent and informal but professional culture from top to bottom.
All employees know exactly how we are performing as a company and the targets we
need to achieve. Every week our Chief Executive writes Maplin Matters,
our e-newsletter, which keeps everyone informed about how we are doing, as well
as publicising the news and events around the company.
It is hugely important that, even as we grow ever larger, we continue to feel like
one big team.
